The Journey

Our Treasure

A Multi-Faceted Artist

A Multi-Faceted Artist

America’s richest heritage – its great National Parks has drawn the attention of thousands of artists from John Muir and Ansel Adams, the Hudson River School painters, to 21st century dreamers - attracted to the sheer vastness and beauty of this grandeur. Artists participate in several Artist-in-residence programs often in the great Western National Parks capturing granite and redwood cathedrals for all to admire. Yes – they are there and we feel compelled to soak in their majesty. But now one Master Artist/Educator/Printmaker seeks to print each and every National Park – ALL 62 as of today, and 100's of National historic sites along the way!  Help kick-start this  decade long journey.

Celebrating our rich natural heritage through art has also been artist Ron Garrett’s passion. Over his dedicated, long art career, he has created numerous works in prints, paintings, drawings and mixed media sculpture that featured his stays in state and regional parks, sketching and molding the beauty of nature and highlighting the threats it faces. His first solo show of National Park art was in 2018, commemorating Biscayne National Park’s 50th Anniversary. “Between the Tides” merged art, archaeology and conservation to highlight this unique body of water that houses the “maritime heritage trail” and the living waters of the park.

The Mission

A Multi-Faceted Artist

The Mission

“Keep Parks Beautiful” is a new initiative focused on our great National Parks, where Garrett will create 2 unique print portfolios - a traditional portfolio of ‘etchings’, and a graphic portfolio of ‘woodcuts’. The print portfolios seek to capture this moment in time, post Covid-19, and preserve it for generations to come. The journey will start in Florida where Ron Garrett currently resides, and the Florida portfolio of 3 National Parks and 7 other National Historic Sites will be created in 2021-23. The goal is to complete the entire body of work, state by state, by 2031 so “America the Beautiful” will be permanently ‘etched’ on metal and ‘cut’ on wood for generations to see. And just as any odyssey begins with a single step, every image along the trail will become a mile-marker of the artist’s wanderings and vision.

'manatee lament'

Mixed Media/ Upcylcled Materials Assemblage

This ‘tearful’ life size gentle giant of South Florida waterways has recently been under attack by green algae proliferation, boat motor lacerations and plastic waste. “I have sculpted and created this manatee from marine debris and recycled materials including shells collected from local beaches to highlight the threats these sea mammals face from human carelessness." A focal point in the Atrium at the Elliott Museum, featuring my Biscayne National Park art show.
